Photo Report for the Kyoto Program 2008
From May 29 to June 25, twenty eight students experienced a special 4-week, 3-unit summer course led by Dr. Keach Inaba, Coordinator of the Japanese Program. The students explored the culture and the history of Japan through instruction at Uji-city Cultural Center in Kyoto as well as excursions to culturally and historically significant sites not only in the region (Kyoto, Uji, and Nara) but also in Hiroshima and Tokyo. The participants also learned Japanese society (Japanese family, custom, and manners) by staying at the house of Japanese host families in Kyoto (breakfast and dinner included).The program was offered by the Department of Foreign Languages at SJSU and all the participants earned three units of JPN 160 (Special Topic in Japanese Studies). It was open to all undergraduate and graduate students from SJSU and other CSU campuses. Besides twenty one SJSU students, one from San Francisco State University and one from Fullerton, and five from Long Beach from CSU, Long Beach also took part in the program.
